OK, after having some performance issues with my current Alienware System, the 2008 Area 51 I’ve finally decided to invest into another Alienware System, the Aurora R4. Recently I’ve been doing some video editing with large files using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 and have notice a huge performance decrease when running multiple applications such as Photoshop. I want to be able to multi-task but my current system isn’t keeping up. I know I could make a few upgrades, but enough is enough. My last purchase was a Nvidia GTX 550ti for this machine which set me back approx $230.00 at the time, but my Dual Core CPU is old news. Time for the new!

Today I dropped $3500.00 on a new Alienware Aurora R4, and this was after saving 6% from promotions and getting free shipping. Here is my new system specs:

I’m keeping my monitor and 7.1 surround sound as they are relatively new anyway. I choose to stay with Windows 7 as I’ve read about some performance issues with Windows 8, so maybe I’ll wait another year or so before I upgrade my OS.

The goal, other than having a bad ass desktop system, was to be able to run multiple applications with little to no performance issues so I’ll be sure to keep you up to date with how this works out.

Yeah, I do some gaming from time to time as well. Some may see me playing Battlefield 2 on the Big E Server (Callsign: =[342FT]= Deadstick) and I’m a bit excited to see how this new systems handles Battlefield 3 and the upcoming Battlefield 4 this fall, but the main purpose is to be able to multi-task running high end software that demands performance.

I also went out and bought the 24″ ASUS VG248QE Monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate. It’s 3d enabled already, has 1ms and a ton of features. Check this video review on the monitor itself. Now I’m taking the full advantage of my GTX 690 video card and can not believe how much I have been missing from running a slower monitor.

So far I’ve had no issues with my new PC and currently running Adobe CS6 Cloud Design Software and I’m very impressed. Opening large projects with multiple applications running in the background has had zero affect on performance. It’s AWESOME! The liquid cooled system is super quiet and runs very efficiently. I havnt done to much gaming on it, but from what I have done, it’s a whole new experience by far.

This winters project I wanted to take to the next level of detail and user interaction. Over the next several weeks I’ll be working hard to develop a website theme like I’ve never done before. Once again gamers will be thrilled to find yet another website template that they can use to design or redesign their new or current website. SEO For Beer Drinkers

Listen, there isn’t anything better than sitting at your desk drinking an ice cold beer in a tall ice frosted mug while optimizing a webpage for search indexing. Now that’s not to say it’s the best way to do it, just a preferred method by those who don’t give a hoot for those “so serious” SEO fools who tend to blow the search indexing criteria way out of proportion to lure you into buying their services. BLAH! Pour me another one please……

OK, lets be real. Nobody on the outside knows every algorithm Google, Bing, MSN, Yahoo etc. etc. etc. uses to index webpages. We get bits and pieces everywhere from people like Googles Matt Cutts, as to what search engines are looking for. Don’t get me wrong, I’m Matt Cutts Biggest Fan, but we all need to settle down a bit to better understand just a few key things about how web indexing really works. From there we can use a few basic techniques to assure our webpage(s) will get indexed and how we can maximize and improve those page ranks. My tongue just stuck to the side of my frosty mug…….

What The Hell Is SEO?: Good question, and thanks for asking! SEO obviously stands for Search Engine Optimization. If you know this much just skip these rest of this paragraph and move on. If you want to know a little more, well, keep reading. A long long time ago someone decided to build a library of websites and webpages that people can quickly access by using search phrases, (ie. keywords) to list results of a web search through your favorite search engine, like Google for example. This list, also known as organic search results, ideally shows web pages that are most likely matched to your search query from highest to lowest. The thing with this is that it’s no guarantee your going to get exactly what your looking for at the very 1st position and so on. It might take browsing to page 3 of your search query or beyond to find exactly what your looking for. And then that’s no guarantee. What can you do? Maybe use a better search phrase perhaps? Maybe, but the idea is to make sure we follow a few common techniques to insure we do our best to maximize our webpage results organically so that we can limit the number of search result pages one might have to flip through before finding your webpage for that specific viewer.

W.W.T.K.D.: What Would ThemeKings Do? Well, never top off your mug. No sir, recycling your own spit with semi cold beer can ruin the experience! Get a new icy mug and filler to the top. Let’s move on shall we.

Before we start optimizing our webpages lets make sure we have two things in place;

• robot.txt within our root file
• Meta follow tag within the HTML section of our webpage

Remember, this is basic stuff so I’m not going to go into why it’s important because that’s for complete nerds. Just do it! Sorry, I had a shot of whiskey earlier and I get a little brave when I do shots. OK, here is a little insight as to why we use the robot.txt file and the meta follow tag. The robot.txt file tells web-bots, search spiders, or what ever you choose to call those little rascials whether or not you give them permission to run wild throughout your website and collect information about what your website and webpages are about. One of the many things spiders like to collect is keywords, and the number of times those keywords are used within that page. I’ll go into that more later. Below is an example of how a basic robot.txt file would look like giving permissions to spiders to crawl your website.

This file should be located within your root file of your server. When spiders visit your website they already, BURP! Excuse me, know where to look for this to check for permission to access and crawl your site. The robot.txt file can be modified to deny crawling of folders, files, and pages if you choose. But that’s a whole subject we might get into later. But for now, this is what’s necessary to grant permission to spiders to crawl and index your website completely.

Secondly the META FOLLOW TAG contained within the HTML section of every webpage should also grant permission to index that page. A basic meta tag to grant permission to do so would look like this;

What this tag is telling spiders is that it’s ok to INDEX this page, and that they may FOLLOW any links contained within this page. Here’s a nice video by Matt Cutts on how web search works.

CSS Navigation Menu

 I thought it would be nice to share a basic CSS navigation menu with our community. This works and looks very well in many browsers and very easy to setup, even for someone who has very little experience with CSS navigation menus.

Daisy 922 Powerline Boxed

 This is pretty off topic for what this website is about, but I was up late tonight and started reminiscing about the good ol’ days when I was in my mid to late teens, and how I use to take my dog, “King”, down along some railroad tracks that ran parallel to a wooded creek and hunt rabbit’s and squirrels. One of the first purchases as a young working man was a Daisy 922 Powerline air rifle that came with three (3) five (5) round .22 cal clips. The Daisy 922 air rifle had some pretty good stopping power when it came to small game, and rightfully enough anything I’d kill would be used to feed my dog. Because my family didn’t really have to much money at that time to afford the cost of dog food, especially when it was a dog I just took in off the streets, I depended on this gun to help take care of good old King. Could be why he preformed so well out in the field. (hehe)

 Anyway, I started googling about the Daisy 922 and oddly enough this gun is getting scarce as Daisy MFG stop making the 922 in the early 1990′s. I’ve decided I’m going to start a collection and wanted to get the topic out into the search world that if anyone who owns one of these guns, a Daisy 922 Powerline, preferably with the darker plastic stock and forearm, let me know. I’d be very interested in buying the Daisy 922 based off the condition of the gun itself.
